About Karen West

Karen is a professional music educator and performer. She studied music at The City University, London and singing at the Guildhall School for Music and Drama. Karen has a research masters in twentieth century British music from Lancaster University and has a PGCE in teaching from Edinburgh University.

Karen has researched and performed twentieth century and contemporary music throughout her career. She has worked alongside some of the nation’s most prestigious contemporary composers and has studied singing with some of the country’s foremost teachers and performers. Her commitment to excellent music education and leadership at degree and secondary level allied to a high level of performance and research has made her an exceptional mentor and facilitator in the field of singing tuition and performance.

Karen has years of experience in music education and has led outstanding music departments to gain excellent results. Karen is an experienced choral and orchestral director and a first class accompanist.

Karen has a commitment to developing music within Cumbria. She regularly organises concerts in a range of venue to provide performance platforms for musicians of all ages and abilities. Her new studio in Appleby in Westmorland is to be a centre for musical learning and a venue for small scale public performance.
